Rahu Kalam the Unlucky segment of the day

Rahu Kalam is an inauspicious segment of every day when no beginnings should take place. Unlike the Horas, which are calculated by dividing the time between sunrise and sunset by 12 for Day Horas, and dividing the time between sunset and sunrise by 12 for Night Horas, the length of Rahu Kalam is always longer than a Hora. Dividing the time between sunrise and sunset by 8 gives us the duration of the Rahu Kalam for each day.

Every Sunday the Rahu Kalam falls on the 8th (last) muhurta (1/8 segment of the daylight hours). On Mondays it is the 2nd, Tuesdays the 7th, Wednesday the 5th, Thursday the 6th, Friday the 4th and Saturday the 3rd muhurta is the Rahu Kalam. Rahu Kalam never falls on the 1st muhurta of the day.

Knowing the exact timing of the Rahu Kalam is very important, as this time all “initiative” actions get negative energies. The Rahu Kalam however is very good for occult practices and rituals that deal with the unseen. By definition the Rahu kalam will overlap with the planetary Horas every day, so everyone must calculate this effect when planning and scheduling their daily activities.

For instance, for Scorpio Ascendant people the Horas of Jupiter always bring very good luck with finances and investments (among other things) but when Rahu Kalam is happening simultaneously with the Hora of Jupiter, no major investment should be made. For Libra people the Horas of Mars are always excellent for partnerships, cooperation and romance, but on days when the Rahu kalam coincides with Mars Hora, it would be ill advised to get married, form a legal partnership, or even go on a first date.
